The Obsidian Villa is a masterclass in restraint. Located in the Lombardy hills, the project began with a clear mandate: create a home that disappears into its landscape. The exterior is clad in dark, hand-laid slate, reflecting the surrounding pine forests while absorbing the harsh alpine sun.
Internally, every material was chosen for its sensory honesty. The primary stone is a honed Nero Marquina marble—ice-cold to the touch in winter and cool in summer—that dictates the emotional temperature of the entire house. Against it, we introduced warm, fumed oak and hand-burnished bronze for contrast and humanity.
Light was treated as a building material in its own right. South-facing light wells were precision-cut into the roof to project dramatic beams that travel across the living spaces throughout the day, turning the floor plan into a sundial.
